We all are fighting a war within. Although we may have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we still live in a fleshly body. Our soul, will, mind and emotions, still face temptations. These temptations war against our soul. It is good for us to know this so we may be on guard against Satan’s schemes.
Worldly desires are just that. It is the desires we see, sense, taste, etc., in the world. 1 Peter 2:11 reminds us we are strangers and foreigners in the world. Moreover, it calls us to stay away from the lusts of the world which creates conflict in our soul. It can be as simple as eating too much. It wars against our soul and body. It produces poor health. Or, we get in the race of “keeping up with the Jones.” It causes us to overspend. We go into debt. We become depressed. It wars against our soul.
We have to be mindful of the things of the world. We can do this by putting things through a filter by asking ourselves if this is of God or of the world. When we feed our faith the more we can recognize the things of God and the things of the world. This is why it is so important for us to know the Word, the Bible, for ourselves. The Holy Spirit will always bring back to our remembrance those things of God.
When we do not have the Word of God to feed us as we are living our lives, we constantly find ourselves battling and struggling, and falling into sin. Of course this is not God’s best for our lives. For Jesus did not die for us to live defeated lives. We can cast down those things of the world, through the help of the Holy Spirit. Without a doubt, we are not alone. The Holy Spirit is our helper in ALL things. With resolve, we must seek God in all things.
Titus 2:11-13 says, “ The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” This is another reminder for us to stay away from worldly desires. It is through our Lord we are able to do this and still have an abundant, victorious life through Jesus Christ, on the Earth. Love & Blessings!
