Self-control requires that you think before you act. If you act impulsively, this will cause you to step out of the will of God for your life. As Christians, we take on the mind of Christ. That is why we are called followers of Christ. We must first think like He thinks and then do, to be the followers, we should be (1 Corinthians 2:16).
Self-control is of the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). It is the supernatural help we get from the Holy Spirit to be like God wants us to be, a reflection of His son. We cannot do this on our own strength and truly need His help.
Recently, I was listening to Dr. Charles Stanley of In Touch Ministries. He was talking about surrendering ourselves to God, especially those things that entangle us. When we are Godly sorrowful for losing self-control, we repent and surrender ourselves to God for His help
We need God’s help in everything. Therefore, it is prideful and foolish for us to think we do not. Satan tricks us into thinking we only need God for certain things. As a result, he clobbers us with that type of thinking. We are utterly dependent upon God.
We need to examine ourselves. Moreover, ask the question who is controlling you. Then, ask is it the Holy Spirit or is it you? Sometimes it is as simple as that. We complicate the things of God. You have to have a strong desire to serve God. Believe in your heart that the Holy Spirit will enable you to do what you have to do.
If your desire is strong for God, you will surrender those things that entangle you. It is through the Holy Spirit’s help this will happen. The Bible says God always gives us a way of escape in our temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13). That is part of the help you will get. Then He gives you the supernatural power to endure the temptation. The other help that you get. This is what the Fruit of Self-Control looks like… Amen. Love & Blessings!
