Satan is always trying to penetrate our lives. He can do it directly or indirectly. He can do it in your face or very shrewdly. When we think of the word greed, no one in their right mind wants to be associated with that word. It carries a negative connotation.
Recently, I was introduced to the word, pleonexia. For years I listened to the ministry of Dr. Charles Stanley. I credit him in helping to navigate walking and living a Christian lifestyle. Dr. Stanley invariably emphasized gaining God’s BEST for your life. This is where the abundant, victorious life resides.
Dr. Stanley’s son, Andy Stanley, has his own ministry in Georgia. There is a distinct difference in the style of these two men. We should expect that to a degree, because God did not make us clones. He made us individuals to walk in the newness of life in Jesus Christ.
Recently, when I was watching one of Andy Stanley’s sermons. He introduced a new word to me. The word is PLEONEXIA. I had never heard the word before. As I listened to the sermon, I realized, this man was going deep. It was obvious, he had a deep foundation and relationship with our living God. Although, this really did not surprise me knowing how deep his father, Dr. Charles Stanley, was in his ministry.
So this word PLEONEXIA is the power of greed that robs us while it enriches us. He used Luke 12:13 -21 as his scripture. Jesus is sharing a parable about the rich man or fool. We know the story. The rich man was hoarding his riches not wisely stewarding them. Jesus referred to him as a fool because his life was required of him that evening.
The rich man lived a life with no purpose. God was not the center of his life. Unfortunately, gathering things does not guarantee eternal life with Jesus Christ.. It is our acceptance of Him as our Lord and Savior and repenting of our sins. It is making Him Lord over our lives with His help… Amen.
As we can see greed, one of the deadly sins, as with all deadly sins, can be so subtle. It is subtle in our lives. Often, we do not realize we are going in the wrong direction. The wrong direction causes us to lose our soul as we read in the parable. Love & Blessings.
